FAQs

What is schizoaffective disorder?

Schizoaffective disorder is a chronic mental illness that combines symptoms of schizophrenia (like hallucinations or delusions) with symptoms of a mood disorder (such as depression or mania). It’s rare, complicated, and often misunderstood. You can learn more in Chapter 1.

Who created this site?

SurvivingSZA was created by someone living with schizoaffective disorder. After navigating years of illness, two hospitalizations, and a long recovery, they built this site to share practical tools, peer stories, and lived-experience-based guidance that actually makes sense in the real world. Is this site a substitute for professional help?

No. While SurvivingSZA offers real advice from people who’ve been there, it’s not medical advice. It’s meant to complement—not replace—support from a licensed mental health provider.

Who is this site for?

Anyone living with schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, psychosis-spectrum conditions, or bipolar with psychotic features. It’s also for caregivers, friends, and peer specialists. We’re peer-led, inclusive, and grounded in reality.
